Is the Zen Blue a DAC?
On the back, there’s a balanced 4.4mm output, a pair of RCA Analog Outputs, an Analog/Digital Switch, a Coaxial Output, an Optical Output, and a DC 5V power jack. The Zen Blue is thus a wireless DAC that outputs to various sources, but most notably functions as a Bluetooth DAC that you will pair up to your phone.
Does iFi Zen Can need DAC?
The iFi Zen Can is part of the recently released Zen stack and is meant to be paired with the iFi Zen DAC. Both the DAC and amp have practically the same chassis and looks rather retro when stacked. You can of course choose a DAC of your own preference and at times get even better performance (more on this below).
Can ZEN DAC connect to Zen Blue?
The DAC and the Blue are digital to analog converters. However, it’s not possible to use the Blue as a DAC and the DAC as a pre-amp before the Can (Zen DAC has outputs but not inputs), you only can use it as a source. So, the three brothers can’t all be used together at the same time.
