A linear power supply requires a dedicated AC power transformer depending upon the input/output voltage and power demand. Each device has a fixed power demand and hence each application requires a dedicated transformer.
Do linear power supplies sound better?
In most cases linear power supplies are simply measurably less noisy. However you can also hear the difference – back in the days when I used to sell Naim, I always looked forward to being able to demonstrate the difference adding a hicap or flatcap made to a system – it really can make a good system sound great.
